Helbald

Population. ~7,000 humans

Goods. Staple food and drink, vodka, whiskeys, clothing, tools, leather armor, scale mail, chain mail, ring mail, plate mail, nearly all weapons, most gear, dogs, equine beasts, produce animals, stone, crystals, nickel, copper, platinum.

Services. Shoemakers, cobblers, tailors, barbers, magical healers, bed partners, taverns, stables, masons, carpenters, blacksmiths, leatherworkers, bath houses, mercenaries, tattooists, pubs, inns, a necromancer, and a feast hall. 

Governance. Stratocracy supported by numerous trade councils and committees.

Helbald is a massive mining town high in the Mizovan mountains. There are five mines in the nearby area; three are currently inactive, one is ancient and the entrance has been lost, and the currently active one is about an hour outside of town. A couple days south of town is Zirilrakust, a dwarven hold that's been out of contact for a few decades (not uncommon for dwarves).

The town walls are impressive at 40 feet high, and the local militia is well trained and staffed. Helbald's military commander Aran Pashu Namvah-Khaji holds near-total power in town, but consults a council of merchant lords on many matters. Aran has dozens of children, legitimate and not.

There's said to be a thriving and frighteningly competent criminal society in Helbald… if this is true, they keep very quiet.
